Issue Position: Economy

Issue Position

We must strengthen the economy in our state not only by creating new jobs, but also by filling those which are currently vacant. There are approximately 15,000 cyber security jobs waiting to be filled, and in Maryland we have the resources necessary to train those in need of jobs to fill these positions. In order to improve our state's economy, we need more programs in Maryland aimed at future job markets. A well supported and strong public education system, coupled with targeted community college, trade school, and university programs will not only fill the current need for jobs, but also entice more job providers to come to Maryland.

Additionally, we must examine our tax structure and mold it in a manner that keeps businesses thriving. Loopholes that exist for large and out of state companies must be closed, while incentives for small businesses should be added: specifically, sick days and health care. Incentives will also insure that while the minimum wage appropriately increases, jobs will not disappear as a result.
